HENRY COUNTY PROSECUTOR BECOMES JUDGE

David Williams, Henry County commonwealth's attorney, was sworn in Friday as judge for the 21st Judicial Circuit.

"He's young but well-seasoned with common sense and patience - two qualities which will serve him well in his position," said Judge Kenneth Covington. Covington's retirement, which became official Jan. 1, made the seat available.

Williams was the only candidate being considered when the General Assembly approved his appointment last week. Williams had been unanimously backed by the bar associations in Henry County-Martinsville and in Patrick County.

The judicial circuit, which he will share with Judge Frank Richardson, is made up of Patrick County, Martinsville and Henry County.

Robert Bushnell, a Collinsville lawyer, was sworn in Thursday to replace Williams as prosecutor in Henry County until a special election in November. The election will determine who will serve the balance of the term, which expires in 1991.

Bushnell has announced that he would run in the election.
