FEDERAL MOGUL REHIRES 25 LAID-OFF WORKERS

Federal Mogul Corp. will recall 25 workers who were laid off last year, the company said Friday.

Plant spokesman Dave Hall said the recall was made possible by an increase in orders from such major customers as Caterpillar Inc. and Chevrolet. The company's sales of replacement parts also are doing well, he said.

The plant, which makes engine bearings, laid off about 35 people in September and 40 more in January, Hall said. The 25 rehired workers will start Monday.

Hall could not predict whether other workers would be recalled, saying it depends on the company's success in obtaining new business.

Federal Mogul employs more than 600 people at its Blacksburg plant.
