BIG ISLAND - Ralph Gaston Hite, age 86, of Route 1, passed away Friday, March 2, 1990, in the Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was born January 2, 1904, in Raleigh County, W.Va., a son of the late Leonard Hite and Esther Shaffer Barger Hite. His wife was the late Mary Pansy Poindexter Hite. He was a retired manager of the Bedford County Lake and was a member of the Hunting Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by two sons, R.G. Hite, Jr., Richmond; Donnie Hite, Waynesboro; two brothers, Paul Hite, West Point; Huiet Hite, Fincastle; half brother, John Barger, Roanoke; two sisters, Helen Noel, Eagle Rock; Ethel Campbell, Staunton; four half sisters, Annie Wray, Moneta; Alice Firebaugh, Hollins; Charlotte Wolfe, Roanoke; Maude Wilhelm, Albuquerque, N.M. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 5, 1990, at 2:00 p.m. from the Hunting Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Jones. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford, and requests that those wishing to make memorials should consider the Hunting Creek Baptist Church or the Big Island Lifesaving Crew.
