SALEM COUNCILMEN WILL RUN UNOPPOSED

Incumbent Salem City Councilmen Sonny Tarpley and Mac Green will once again run unopposed in their bids for re-election in May.

By Tuesday's deadline, only Tarpley and Green had filed the required qualification of candidacy documents and petitions with a minimum of 125 registered voter signatures with the Salem Circuit Court clerk's office.

Both Tarpley and Green announced in January that they would seek their fifth terms in the May 1 council election.

Tarpley, the 48-year-old vice president of Salem Bank & Trust, and Green, the 64-year-old secretary/treasurer of a Salem mattress business, are running as independents.
