FCC TO STUDY EASING SOME CURBS ON AT&T

The Federal Communications Commission voted Thursday to consider removing most federal restraints on American Telephone & Telegraph Co.'s sale of long-distance phone services, saying that "significant competition" now exists in the market.

Competitors now are free to alter prices at will but AT&T must justify any rate changes to the FCC, proving it is not selling below cost to capture business. The changes could go into effect by January 1991. - Los Angeles Times
