GRILLS MAY HAVE DEFECTIVE PARTS

A major manufacturer of outdoor barbecue grills and accessories is warning consumers to check their equipment before firing up because a part may be defective.

The Illinois-based Thermos Co. said this week it is voluntarily replacing a component part of its "Thermos" and "Structo" gas barbecue grills because it might leak gas and cause a fire.

Thermos said it would replace the hose, valve and regulator assembly of the two models. Approximately 87,600 grills sold since April 1989 may be involved, the company said.

The company said the retrofitting program applies only to models stamped "Taiwan Pao-An Ind. Co." with serial numbers between 721791 and 886390.

Consumers with the defective grills should call the Thermos Co. at 1-800-446-0475 between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. weekdays.
