Larry Mahoney, 36, was convicted Dec. 23 on 81 charges in the May 14, 1988, crash that killed 24 teen-agers and three adults traveling in a school bus.
Mahoney's pickup truck, going the wrong way on Interstate 71 near Carrollton, slammed head-on into the bus, which quickly was engulfed in flames. The victims were on a church outing.
Mahoney was convicted on 27 counts of second-degree manslaughter, 12 counts of first-degree assault, 27 counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, 14 counts of second-degree wanton endangerment and one count of driving under the influence.
Mahoney was sentenced to 16 years in prison and must serve half the sentence before being eligible for parole.
