6 DIE IN SEPARATE AUTOMOBILE CRASHES OVER THE WEEKEND

Four people died in automobile accidents in Southwest Virginia this weekend, and a Lynchburg couple was killed in a Stafford County crash.

Conrad Roger Helms, 24, of Route 1, Ferrum, died early Saturday when his car ran off the right side of Virginia 619 in Franklin County, struck several trees and turned over.

He died about 1 1/2 hours after the 12:05 a.m. accident.

At 8:10 a.m. Saturday, Michael Shane Price, 18, of Route 2, Blacksburg, was killed when his car ran off the left side of Virginia 114 in Montgomery County and struck a tree.

Two Roanoke County men died Friday night when their car and a tractor-trailer collided on U.S. 221 near the base of Bent Mountain.

Teague Edward Allen, 18, of 11099 Rocky Road, Bent Mountain, and Thomas Corbin Crowe, 18, of Bent Mountain Road, were dead at the scene of the 7:30 p.m. accident.

Near Fredericksburg, state police said an accident killed a Lynchburg couple early Saturday on Interstate 95 in Stafford County.

Nancy S. Elliot, 38, and her husband, Peyton M. Elliott, 43, who were passengers in a van, were killed, Trooper J.D. Kempfer said. The Elliots were not wearing safety belts.

Charles E. Duncan, 29, of Spotsylvania was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, one count of felony hit and run, one count of driving under the influence and one count of driving on a suspended or revoked drivers license, Kempfer said.

Kempfer said the Elliots were riding in a van driven by David Cannon, 41, of Lynchburg, whose wife, Heidi, also was a passenger. David Cannon was uninjured and Heidi Cannon was treated at a hospital and released, a spokeswoman said. They were wearing seatbelts.
