BRIEFLY . . .

A teen-ager has been arrested at a motel in James City County and charged with making harassing telephone calls in what is believed to be the first arrest in the state to result from the Caller ID phone service. Caller ID customers have a box attached to their phone that displays the number from which an incoming call is being made. C&P Telephone Co. began offering the new service last month. If convicted of the misdemeanor, 19-year-old Jonathan Stein would face up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

A June 8 sentencing date has been set in Fairfax County Circuit Court for a man who was sniffing laughing gas when he slammed his car into another vehicle last Nov. 29, killing Anne Fitchett-Rush, 59, of Falls Church, and Elizabeth L. Robinson, 71, of Annandale. John Jeffries Lisanick, 23, pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of involuntary manslaughter and also pleaded guilty to one count of possessing marijuana with intent to distribute and one count of possessing a controlled drug. Lisanick could receive up to 10 years in prison on each charge.
