Knights of Clumbus tourney to continue Sixteen teams remain as the Knights of Columbus Youth Basketball Tournament enters its final weekend.

The Heights Club Orange team will face the Williamson Road 76ers and the North Roanoke Hawks will play the Vinton Tarheels in the midget-league semifinals Saturday.

In little-league quarterfinal play, the Northwest Lakers will play the Cave Spring 76ers, the North Roanoke Vikes will play the North Roanoke Cavaliers, the Fincastle Trojans will play the North Roanoke Hawks and the Cave Spring Blazers will play the Roanoke Catholic Saints. The quarterfinals will be held Friday and Saturday.

The Cave Spring Hawks will face the Mason Cove Volunteers Friday and the Cloverdale Spurs will play the High Street Saints Saturday in the junior-league semifinals.

The tournament also will include the annual one-on-one contest, featuring stars from Roanoke-area high-school basketball teams.

The pairings are: Eric Walker of North Cross vs. Kevin Hollar of Cave Spring; John Baker of Northside vs. Tremont Anderson of Patrick Henry; Dontel Arrington of William Fleming vs. Brian Bowles of Roanoke Catholic; Mike Fayed of Cave Spring vs. David Williams of Fleming; Gary Martindale of Northside vs. Dustin Fonder of North Cross; Brod Bonds of William Byrd vs. Terrell Milam of Salem; Paul Jordan of Byrd vs. John Shelor of Salem; and Troy Anderson of Patrick Henry vs. Chad Anderson of Roanoke Catholic.

Championship games will be played Sunday. A contest for cheerleaders will be held between games. All activities will take place in the gymnasium of Roanoke Catholic High School.

Soccer Stop team wins adult indoor tourney

P.J. McCarthy and Grayson Prillaman combined for five goals as Soccer Stop defeated Valley United Knappers 8-4 in the final of the recent Adult Indoor Soccer League tournament at the former Jefferson High School.

Soccer Stop finished 4-0 in the eight-team, round-robin total. McCarthy and Prillaman each had five goals for the tournament. - Staff report
