Jacqueline E. Lumbo, 22, of the 5400 block of Warwood Drive, Roanoke, was charged with embezzling between September 1989 and February 1990 by using the company's computer to issue fraudulent refund checks, said Salem Detective Lt. Russ Gwaltney.
Police learned of the crime allegation Feb. 23, when an executive of the company reported discovering the loss when the company changed to a new computer system. In changing over the system, company officials noticed a large number of refunds to a Vinton woman and a Roanoke man, Gwaltney said.
Those people - Deborah H. Stone, 25, of Route 1, Vinton, and Christopher A. Williams, 25, of the 4100 block of Cresthill Drive, Roanoke - were charged with accessory to the embezzlement, Gwaltney said.
