ABORTION DECISIONS AREN'T MADE LIGHTLY

WHEN I SEE news reports of events like the blockade of the Roanoke Medical Center for Women, I always wonder about the motivation of those involved.

Decisions regarding abortion are not made lightly. These women are going through a very stressful time and do not need to be harassed by zealots who would presume to act as their conscience.

Each woman involved in an unwanted pregnancy faces several choices, none of them pleasant or easy. Any action they take will undoubtedly carry longstanding consequences for themselves and society.

I have been a volunteer with Planned Parenthood for many years. This organization, through an excellent staff and many caring volunteers, works very hard to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Until we can find realistic ways to control fertility, abortions will continue. Shouldn't we all be working together toward this goal?\ NANCY R. EDDY\ ROANOKE
