MACNELLY TO GIVE DEMONSTRATION

Jeff MacNelly will demonstrate his art Thursday night at 8 at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon.

MacNelly has been honored in his dual career as a syndicated political cartoonist and the creator of the comic strip "Shoe." In 1972, 1978 and 1985, he received the Pulitzer Prize for his political cartoons. He has twice received the highest honor awarded by The National Cartoonists Society for "Shoe."

A graduate of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, MacNelly has worked with the Chapel Hill Weekly and the Richmond News Leader.

Tribune Media Services syndicates his editorial work to more than 400 newspapers and "Shoe" to nearly 1,000 newspapers worldwide.

Thursday's program titled "Behind the Cartoon," will include demonstrations of cartooning techniques.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Reservations are recommended and may be made by calling the William King Arts Center at 628-5005.
