STUDY: ABORTION GROUPS AVOIDING AIDS VICTIMS

An informal survey of New York City abortion providers suggests that women who reveal they are infected with the AIDS virus may quickly find their appointments canceled.

Two-thirds of the abortion clinics and physicians surveyed by the city's human rights commission canceled an appointment after the caller said she was infected with the human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV, which causes AIDS.

The commission began looking into the matter after receiving several reports from women who claimed they had been denied abortion services because they were HIV-positive.
