143RD ARAB YOUTH KILLED IN UPRISING

A 10-year-old Palestinian boy was killed by Israeli troops in the occupied West Bank town of Tulkarem, raising to 143 the number of Arab youngsters reported slain in the uprising against Israeli rule.

The death came a day after former President Jimmy Carter accused Israel of violating the human rights of Palestinians in the occupied territories, citing imprisonment without trial and the shooting deaths of children.

Carter, who ended his three-day visit Tuesday, accused Israeli troops of "excessive use of firearms" in dealing with the 27-month-old Palestinian uprising.
