MONGOLIAN LEGISLATURE CHOOSES NEW LEADER

The Communist-dominated legislature today elected a new president and nominated a new prime minister, continuing a sweeping change of leadership demanded by pro-democracy protesters.

The 370-seat legislature, the Great People's Hural, elected as president Punsaomaabiin Ochirbat, a minister of economic relations and supply since 1988. He replaces Jambyn Batmonh, 64, who resigned last week as Communist Party chief and this week as president.
