MAN ROBS ROANOKE CONVENIENCE STORES

Two Roanoke convenience stores were robbed Tuesday night by a man who asked for change before grabbing money from the cash registers.

A clerk at the Stop In store in the 1600 block of Hershberger Road was injured - apparently not seriously - when a cash register fell on her foot during a struggle with the robber, police said Wednesday.

About 9 p.m., a man entered the 7-Eleven store in the 3600 block of Williamson Road and asked for change for a dollar, police said.

The clerk told police the man grabbed his dollar back and about $20 in cash from the drawer as she opened the cash register. He then fled.

The same man entered the Stop In store and asked for change for a dollar 45 minutes later, police said.

As the man reached for the cash register, cashier Melissa Henderson grabbed his arm and began to struggle with the man.

During the struggle, the cash register fell on Henderson's foot. Police said Henderson was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, but hospital officials had no information on her condition Wednesday.

The man fled from the Stop In store with an undetermined amount of money.
