HANDBELL FESTIVAL IS SCHEDULED

A Handbell Festival, involving more than 20 ringing groups from throughout Western Virginia, is scheduled Friday night and Saturday at First Baptist Church in downtown Roanoke.

The festival is being sponsored by the Roanoke Valley Baptist Handbell Association and will include ringers from several other denominations. Guest director is Howard Starks, minister of music at Calvary Baptist Church in Florence, S.C.

The program, which is open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. Selections Friday night will come from groups at Blacksburg Presbyterian, Cave Spring Baptist and First Baptist of Roanoke.

The Saturday session, starting at 10 a.m., will feature South Roanoke United Methodist, Christiansburg Presbyterian, Rivermont Presbyterian of Lynchburg, Blacksburg Presbyterian, Lexington Presbyterian and First United Methodist of Pearisburg.

Other groups will participate in mass ringing and in a 2 p.m. concert.
