REEBOK, BOXER GIVE TO TRANSAFRICA CENTER

An anti-apartheid group received $625,000 in donations Wednesday to help develop a research and education institute on Africa and the Caribbean.

Paul Fireman, chairman of Reebok International Ltd., announced a three-year, $375,000 grant, while boxer Sugar Ray Leonard will contribute $250,000 to the forum.

TransAfrica is a Washington-based think-tank and the parent organization of the forum, an educational resource that analyzes U.S. policy as it affects Africa and the Caribbean. TransAfrica Director Randall Robinson said that in two years the center will begin African cultural programs.
