STORE STARTS PROGRAM TO RECOGNIZE VOLUNTEERS

JCPenney will sponsor a recognition program to support and encourage volunteer service in the Roanoke Valley area.

Eight grants will be awarded to individuals or groups nominated for outstanding volunteer service. The winners will be selected by a panel of representatives from various civic, service and volunteer groups in the community.

Three winners will be awarded Golden Rule awards, bronze sculptures by artist Greg Wyatt. In addition, JCPenney will give $1,000 cash donations to the volunteer organizations served by the winners. The organizations served by the top five finalists each will receive $250 grants.

The program is open to volunteers in Roanoke, Salem and the counties of Roanoke, Botetourt and Craig. Nomination forms may be obtained at the catalog desks of the JCPenney stores at Tanglewood and Valley View malls. The deadline for nominations is April 15. For more information, call Phillip Boggs at 989-4211.
