FULL RECOVERY PREDICTED FOR ESTEFAN BY DOCTOR

Singer Gloria Estefan, whose back was broken when her tour bus was hit by a truck, underwent successful surgery Thursday to have her spine stabilized with metal rods, a doctor said.

Dr. Michael Neuwirth, an orthopedic surgeon, said he implanted two steel rods onto Estefan's fractured vertebrae during a four-hour operation. He expects her to make a full recovery in three to six months and to be released from hospital in a week to 10 days.

"She'll be able to do everything, including dance," Neuwirth told reporters at Manhattan's Institute Hospital for Joint Diseases.
