David Caudill, president of Dominion Bankshares Corp., said negotiations among tenants, city officials and building developer Henry Faison are beginning to come together.
"Everything is reaching a go position," Caudill said.
City Manager Robert Herbert said Monday night the city will not close the Jefferson Street leg of the Hunter Viaduct, the planned location of the office building, until Faison serves notice that the tower is ready for construction.
Closing and razing of the viaduct had been set for mid-January but was postponed as the city awaited word from Faison. City traffic engineer Robert Bengtson said recently that motorists would get at least two weeks' notice before the viaduct was closed.
Caudill said many people had been asking about tower plans. "The point is," he said, "there are enough tenants to make the project feasible. We do have a go project."
Dominion Bankshares and the law firm of Woods Rogers & Hazlegrove will be among the building's tenants. Faison, of Charlotte, N.C., also developed Valley View Mall.
