BLACKSBURG RESIDENT WINS ORATORY CONTEST

Daniel Kranowski of Blacksburg has won the Virginia American Legion Oratorical Contest and will now advance to regional competition in Raleigh, N.C. Kranowski presented a 10-minute oration titled "The Sanctity of Rights" and a three to five-minute dissertation on an article of the Constitution selected at random to defeat 300 contestants and win the title.

Kranowski received a $1,000 scholarship for winning the competition. If he wins regional competition he could advance to sectional and finally national competition. The national competition carries an $18,000 scholarship as first prize.
