STORIES ON MENTALLY DISABLED WIN AN AWARD FOR REPORTER

Roanoke Times & World-News staff writer Mike Hudson has received an award from the Association for Retarded Citizens of Roanoke for his reporting on abuse and neglect of the mentally disabled.

The association gave Hudson its Dorothy Repass Award For Advocacy. The group cited two reporting projects by Hudson - a pair of stories about the lack of protection for mentally impaired adults living on their own and a five-part series about mentally ill, retarded and elderly people living in homes for adults.

The adult home series has also won an excellence in media award from the Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Roanoke Valley.
