400 WILL LOSE JOBS AT NORFOLK SHIPYARD

At least 400 jobs will be cut at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in coming weeks, and other employees with face pay cuts, the facility's commander said.

Capt. Edward S. McGinley II's announcement Monday is the latest move in a work force reduction that began almost a year ago, when 640 jobs were gradually eliminated through attrition and retirements because of a slowdown in repair work.

The shipyard currently employs about 12,000.
