MAN'S LEG BROKEN DURING SCUFFLE WITH ROANOKE POLICE

A Southeast Roanoke man was treated for a broken leg early today after he was involved in a struggle with police.

Police said that an officer on patrol confronted a man, who appeared to be drunk, at 13th Street and Jamison Avenue Southeast about 1 a.m. The officer attempted to arrest him, police said. The man cursed the officer, ran a short distance and then turned and rammed his shoulder into the officer.

Both men fell into the street during an ensuing struggle, police said.

Charles Crockett Greer, 29, was arrested after a back-up officer arrived. After he was taken into custody, police discovered that Greer had a broken leg that he apparently suffered during the struggle.

Greer, who was taken to Community Hospital, was charged with being drunk in public, assaulting a police officer, impeding a police office and possession of marijuana.
