CHARLES DENSON, JEWELER, DIES

Charles L. Denson, a custom jeweler who once operated his own store in downtown Roanoke, died Tuesday at his home.

Denson and his wife, Helen, operated the store on Kirk Avenue for 26 years before closing it in 1975.

Denson began his career by running errands for his jeweler uncles, from whom he learned the close work of shaping precious metals and setting tiny stones.

He had worked at Henebry's, another Roanoke jeweler, for 25 years before opening his own shop. Among his hand-made pieces were Hollins College rings.

Denson was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist. He is survived by his wife, a sister, three daughters and three sons.

The funeral will be at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel at 1:30 p.m. today.
