AT&T CLOSINGS DRAW PROTEST FROM UNION

American Telephone and Telegraph Co. provided details Wednesday of its planned closing of some facilities - including the plant in Fairlawn, Pulaski County's third-largest employer - and the elimination of 6,000 jobs, prompting an angry protest from its largest union, the Communications Workers of America.

"By closing more offices and laying off workers, AT&T is destroying its ability to provide high-quality service and is destroying employee morale," said James Irvine, the CWA's vice president for communications and technology. - Staff and wire reports
