WOMAN GETS YEAR IN PRISON IN MURDER PLOT

Michelle Rosario was sentenced to a year in prison Tuesday for a Jan. 9 conviction on a charge of trying to hire a hit man to kill her former husband.

In Martinsville Circuit Court, Judge Kenneth Covington suspended all but 12 months of a five-year sentence, the maximum.

According to testimony, Rosario schemed unsuccessfully with an undercover officer to have Dr. Antonio Rosario, a Collinsville doctor, killed for $15,000.

Covington cleared Rosario of separate charges of aiding and abetting in an Aug. 11 shooting that left her wounded.

Commonwealth's Attorney J. Randolph Smith told the court Tuesday that Rosario had made an agreement with James Mark Snead to shoot her in an attempt to frame her husband.

Smith said that three days after the incident, Snead told police that he had shot Michelle Rosario. Snead has been charged with unlawful wounding and his trial is pending.
