The bidding on Mallow Mall, a 20-year-old center just off Interstate 64, is open to anyone, said Washington lawyer Thomas E. Schubert. "You just need to have a certified check for the bid deposit," said Schubert. The deposit is $200,000.
"It's a foreclosure sale," said Schubert, who represents Ohio Savings Bank in Cleveland. He said Mallow Mall Realty Company Ltd. had defaulted on its loan payments to the bank.
Attempts to reach Mallow Mall Realty officials at their West Palm Beach, Fla., offices late Wednesday were unsuccessful.
There is no minimum bid set, said Schubert said. But he said the bank probably would want to cover its investment.
The shopping center - which has a K mart, a restaurant, a fitness center, a bowling alley and several other stores - remains open. Schubert said he knew of no plans to close it.
The auction is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Alleghany County Courthouse in Covington.
