In my job I travel in my car more than 500 miles a week. About three months ago, I had an experience that will not easily be forgotten. I hit and killed a dog. With the aid of a gentleman who had almost hit the same dog, I rushed the animal to a veterinarian. However, there was nothing the vet could do.
Recently, I saw another dog lying in the middle of the road. I assumed he was dead, but after I passed, I saw him roll over and look up. I turned around to help him, but by then he was hit again and killed.
I see more and more dogs dead on our roads. I still get sick to my stomach when I see a poor animal lying on the road. I have a dog who is like a son to my wife and me, and I could not stand the thought of such a tragedy happening to him.
If you should hit an animal, stop and see if you can help it. If not for your own sake but for your pet, don't let him roam free. If you don't want the pet anymore, take it to the animal shelter. At least this way, he will have a chance.
