Ronald James Atkins, age 46, of Roanoke passed away Wednesday in a local hospital. He was a firefighter for Roanoke City and served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He was also a member of Hollins Road Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Wanda Neal Atkins, one son, Joseph D. Atkins, Roanoke; one daughter, Sandra K. Atkins, Roanoke; stepsons, James Rock and Joel Rock, both of Roanoke; stepdaughter, Anita Lavender, Roanoke; four brothers, Leon O. Atkins, Roanoke; Robert (Duck) Atkins, Portsmouth; Eugene V. Atkins, Richmond; Claude G. Atkins, N.C.; also four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 30, 1990 from the Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. David N. Neal officiating. Interment Sherwood Memorial Park. Friends may call at Lotz Salem Chapel.
