BAPTIST YOUTH TEAM WINS STATE TOURNAMENT

A team of fourth- through sixth-graders from First Baptist Church of Roanoke won the Royal Ambassador League championship in the recent Virginia State Southern Baptist Association Basketball Tournament.

The Blue Streak defeated a team from Tabernacle Baptist of South Hill 30-28 with a steal and a 40-foot shot at the buzzer by Andy Newton.

Other team members are Dave Barker, Mark Arbogast, Brent Hoskins, Greg McCray, Brad Densmore, Brian Stevens, Jay Richardson, Roy Hedrick, Chad Welch, Josh Points, Hogan Hartzog, Chad French and Brian Bennett.

Gene Wine was the team's coach, assisted by Charlie Hoskins.
