RAY MARTIN has been named outstanding Northeast regional sales representative by Bond Cote Roofing Systems.

\ DAN MURRY, Standard Register's Roanoke-district sales manager, has received the company's "I Make a Difference" award. Murry has been with the company for seven years, and in the Roanoke district since 1988.

\

DR. DANIEL R. ECKERMANN has been inducted as a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Fellowship in the academy is achieved by only 10 percent of optometrists in the United States and Canada. It is earned by demonstrating professional competence at a level commensurate with the standards set by the academy.

\ MARK F. WILLIAMS has been named a partner in the law firm of Williams, Worrell, Kelly, Greer, & Frank in Norfolk. He is a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School and Randolph-Macon College. Williams received his juris doctor degree form the University of Virginia, where he was editor of the Virginia Tax Law Review.

\ DAVID M. FURMAN, vice president of Dominion Bankshares Corp. has been accredited by the Personnel Accreditation Institute as a senior professional in human resources.

Accredited by the institute as professionals in human resources were Lisa C. Garnett, personnel manager of VFP Inc.; Claude R. Henson Jr., human-resources officer at Dominion Bankshares; Merle J. King, assistant vice president of Dominion Bankshares; and Dennis Myers, manager of training and development for The Orvis C.

\ FOTI, FLYNN, LOWEN & CO. has successfully completed an independent peer review of its accounting and auditing practice. The reviewers concluded that the firm complies with the quality-control standards set by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

\ A. DEAN WILSON has been appointed to the Managers Advisory Council of Equitable Life of Iowa. Wilson is marketing manager for Roanoke.

\ CONNIE IOTT and JOYCE CRAWFORD HAWTHORNE have been licensed as Certified Substance Abuse Counselors. Iott is a primary counselor and Hawthorne an outpatient counselor, both at Mount Regis Center in Salem.

\ CATHY L. CADDY has been named outstanding member for 1989 of the Roanoke chapter of Professional Secretaries International. She recently was promoted to purchasing manager at Carter Machinery Co.

\ DEBBIE N. HUDNALL, formerly of Bedford, has been promoted to business manager at WYYD Radio in Lynchburg. She will be responsible for coordinating the station's daily operations. Hudnall, formerly office manager, joined the station in 1985.

Also at WYYD, Mark R. Sandy has been named general sales manager and Sterling F. Slaughter has been named local sales manager.

\ DRU SEXTON has been promoted to residential-loan originator at Sovran Mortgage. Sexton formerly was a mortgage-loan underwriter.

\ SALEM COACH & EQUIPMENT INC. has been named sole distributor in Virginia for Diamond Coach. The luxury passenger vans range in size from 14 to 25 passengers. They are used mainly by colleges, churches and businesses.

\ FORDHAM B. BRITT has been promoted to training officer of Southern National Bank in Lumberton, N.C. Britt, a Roanoke native, joined the bank in 1983.

\ MYRON COLE has received certification as an accredited financial planning specialist. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants awarded the certification. Cole is principal of Myron Cole & Associates P.C., a Roanoke accounting firm.

\ SCOTT CARLESCO has been named sales manager at Cellular One of the Roanoke Valley. He will supervise the sales force covering the Roanoke Valley. Carlesco is a graduate of Syracuse University.

\ VIRGINIA SCALE & EQUIPMENT CO. has changed its name to Carlton Scale. The company, which sells and services Toledo scales, has locations in Roanoke and Harrisonburg.

\ SHERERTZ, FRANKLIN, CRAWFORD, SHAFFNER INC., an architectural firm, is temporarily moving its office to 348 Campbell Ave. S.W. while its permanent location, 14 W. Kirk Ave., is being renovated. During the relocation, the mailing address and telephone number will remain unchanged. The renovation is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 1.

\ BOOTH COMMUNICATIONS has relocated to 6375 Peters Creek Road. The business sells two-way radio systems, cellular phones and pagers.

\ JOHNNIE BRAKE, general agent for Kansas City Life Insurance Co. in Roanoke, has been named a member of the company's Century Club.

\ DOMINO'S PIZZA has announced several personnel changes. Teresa Mathey has been named manager of the Domino's Pizza store on Williamson Road. She succeeds Joe Driscoll, who moved to the Vinton store. Mark Graziano has been promoted to manager of the Peters Creek location of Domino's Pizza. He formerly was assistant manager of the Elm Avenue store.

Graziano succeeds Alan Asef, who has moved to the Electric Road store, replacing Lance Boyer. Boyer has joined Domino's corporate management program.

\ GUDRUN FREEMAN, a licensed professional counselor in Roanoke, has earned certification from the National Academy of Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselors, an organization that recognizes excellence in clinical mental health counseling.

\ JIM S. BOLLING of Roanoke has been named marketing director for printmaker, poet and photographer Malcolm Childers, whose works are distributed through Wind River Productions. Bolling will operate out of the company's Roanoke office.

\ CYNTHIA L. YOUNG-PRESTON has been named to the first edition of Who's Who in Advertising. She is co-founder and executive vice president of Young-Preston Associates Inc., which offers consulting, publications and educational seminars for non-profit organizations.

\ RICK STUMP and\ ARTHUR KRAUS of Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. in Roanoke have been honored as 1989 sales representative of the year and top life insurance producer, respectively. Both are sales representatives in the company's personal sales department.

\ ROBIN R. DEARING has been appointed project manager for the architectural firm of Sherertz, Franklin, Crawford, Shaffner Inc. He has 28 years' experience as a practicing architect in the Roanoke area.

\ THE VIRGINIA BAR ASSOCIATION has named four Roanoke lawyers to its Young Lawyers' Section.

Matthew B. Broughton of Gentry, Locke, Rakes & Moore was elected to the Young Lawyers Section executive committee and named co-chairman of the membership committee. Dudley F. Woody of Woods, Rogers & Hazlegrove was named chairman of the Lawyers for Literacy Committee.

Michael L. Urbanski, also of Woods Rogers, was named chairman of the Pre-Law Counseling Committee. Cheryl D. Watson of Wetherington & Melchionna was named chairman of the Town Hall Meeting.

\ CYNTHIA H. CARAWAY has been elected trust officer at Dominion Trust Co., the trust affiliate of Dominion Bankshares Corp.

Caraway, a certified public accountant, is an employee-benefits account administrator.

\ LYNN J. KIRK, director of marketing for the Roanoke Marriott, has been appointed to the national sales leadership council for Marriott Hotels. She is one of 11 managers selected from the 182 Marriott hotels in the United States, and represents the 53 hotels within the franchise division.

Kirk has been with the company for 12 years, including the last five in Roanoke.

\ WOODS, ROGERS & HAZLEGROVE has added six new associates to the firm.

They are Agnis C. Chakravorty and William H. Fralin Jr., both with law degrees from the University of Richmond; P. Douglas Henson II and Mark D. Loftis, both graduates of the University of Virginia School of Law; Lanny T. Wilson, who has his law degree from Wake Forest University; and R.J. Scaggs Jr., who received his legal education at the College of William and Mary.

\ HELEN HANEY has completed Haney training as a Welcome Wagon representative. She calls on new residents, engaged women and families with new babies, offering gifts from Roanoke-area businesses and information from various civic groups. Her territory includes Southwest Roanoke and Roanoke County.

\ DAVID R. PEERY has been promoted to trust officer at Sovran Bank. Peery joined the bank in 1977 and most recently was manager of the South Roanoke office.

\ PEGGY D. FIZER has joined First Security Bank as a loan administrator. Fizer has 27 years' banking experience in trust, branch administration and commercial loans.

\ AKD PRODUCTIONS INC., a film and television production company, has moved from its Second Street location to 2709 Brambleton Ave. S.W. The move has joined the company's sales, marketing and management departments with its production studio.

The new studio features eight-track audio recording, an insert shooting studio and a small talk show set. Betsy Williams has joined the company as its general manager.

\ DONALD S. BLANDING and WILLIAM GREGORY BROYLES have joined the Medical Center Pharmacy, an affiliate of Carilion Health System.

Blanding is responsible for managing the marketing and sales of durable medical equipment and the development of in-home respiratory programs.

Broyles is a licensed pharmacist and has responsibility for managing and marketing home intravenous therapy programs and prescription services.

\ MARY F. PARKER, clerk of the city of Roanoke, has been accepted as a member in the Academy for Advanced Education of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. The academy recognizes clerks who have continued their education beyond the level of Certified Municipal Clerk.

Parker has held various positions in the Roanoke city clerk's office during the past 25 years. She has been city clerk since 1974.

\ PAMELA WOODY has been named assistant director of admissions for National Business College's Roanoke campus.

\ STEVE SMITH, a delivery driver for United Parcel Service, recently was recognized by the company for completing 20 years driving without an accident. His territory includes the Bent Mountain and Floyd areas.

\ ELAINE WEINGARTEN of Roanoke, a division manager for World Book-Childcraft, has received the Honor Society Award, one of the company's top sales awards.

\ TIM LANNING, formerly of Roanoke, has been appointed manager of the Harrisonburg branch of Williams Supply Inc.

\ BETTY K. BUSSEY of Roanoke has been named manager of the new office of Central Fidelity Bank, at 4143 Franklin Road S.W. Bussey joined Central Fidelity in 1987 and has served in various positions, most recently as a teller trainer for the southwestern region.

\ HONEYTREE EARLY LEARNING CENTER has started an after-school program for children up to age 12 at its Salem center on Roanoke Boulevard. Activity rooms are available for study, play and arts and crafts. The back yard has a skateboard area, basketball hoops and room for other games.

Tina Kitchen, director of the Salem center, is in charge of the after-school program.
