The board voted at a called meeting Tuesday to fire John Dotson, who began a four-year contract as superintendent last July. Dotson could appeal the contract suspension through a grievance procedure.
Two weeks ago, Dotson refused to release a payment to Energy Management Systems of Southwest Virginia Inc. because, he said, contracts with the company were in violation of a state procurement act requiring the board to seek bids for certain services.
Board attorney Gerald Gray agreed, but the board did not. It named Assistant Superintendent Gerald Triplett to become acting superintendent. - Southwest bureau
