NEW RIVER PEOPLE

The stockholders of Blacksburg Country Club recently held their 34th annual meeting and elected the following members to the board of directors for three year terms:\ RANDY LESLIE, STEVEN A. MARSHALL and\ HOWARD B. STANTON JR.

\ JEFF BOURNE, MILLER BUSHONG, BUD HARRIS, ELLIE MCDANIEL, PETE PETRONE and\ SALLY STEPHENSON were elected to the board of directors for 1990-91.

\ ADELIA ARRINGTON, PAT BARNETT and \ BARBARA CLOUSE, members of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau Committee, recently attended the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation's 1990 Statewide Women's Conference in Virginia Beach.

\ SCOTT KENT MONROE of Blacksburg recently made the dean's list at Wake Forest University.

\ SANDY JORDAN, a Shawsville artist, received "Best of Show" honors in the annual Faces and Places of Appalachia Art Show in Dublin. Her winning painting, "Green Tomatoes and Phoebe," features an eastern phoebe fluffing itself against the chill in an early autumn patch of newly frosted tomatoes.

Students of Terry Wilson's Academy of Dance competed in the Dance Troupe convention held in Virginia Beach recently. Winners include\ LEAH GRAHAM, AMY ADAMS, KRISTA WILSON, JULIE SUTPHIN, DENA GREGORY, KRISTIN SIMMONS, SHARON HUPPERT, TENERA DIAL, JESSICA HINDLE, CARA CRITZER, JULIE JONES, TAMMY MCCOLLUM, SHIRITI PATEL, MICHELLE LOOKADO, STACI AKERS, SHANNON BRUMFIELD, LISA HEASTER and\ CLARE BIRX.

\ MARIE LIVERMORE, a Blacksburg artist, recently received the Ocmulgee Art Award in the 11th National Exhibition of the Georgia Watercolor Society. The exhibit is on display at the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon, Ga.

\ JEAN R. NELSON, a Christiansburg artist, received the George Swift Tweed Memorial Award in the 37th annual Exhibition of the National Society of Painters in Casein and Acrylic held in New York.

\ KIMBERLY L. PERDUE, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Perdue of Blacksburg, was named to the Roanoke College faculty's list of honorable mention for the fall term.

\ JONATHAN J. HEWITT of Blacksburg was named to Bowdoin College's dean's list for the fall term.
