RICHARDS, GARY M.\ Gary M. (Mike) Richards, age 40, of Thaxton, passed away suddenly Saturday morning. He was predeceased by his father, Pop Richards, and was an employee of John Hancock in Salem. Surviving are his wife, Fannie Carter Richards; stepson, James Edward Carter, Jr., Roanoke; three stepdaughters, Mrs. American Jane Harlow, Miss Mary Elizabeth Carter, Mrs. Loretta Lynn Hooker, all of Roanoke; one brother, Charles Douglas Richards, Vinton; three sisters, Lois Yvonne Cawley, Thaxton; Dixie Lee Vargas, Roanoke; Deborah Joy Richards, Vinton; Donna Marie Richards, Vinton; stepgranddaughter, Kayla Renee Carter. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday from the Shady Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Chance officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Lotz Vinton Chapel.
