FEISTY BUNNIES MOLD FIELD CHAMPS

Members of the Mountain Valley Beagle Club have known for some time that they have one of the best concentrations of rabbits anywhere in the country on their 60-acre Franklin County enclosure.

Now they know why.

Recently members observed an aggressive bunny chasing away a couple of crows that apparently were out to rob her nest of its little ones.

"This rabbit repeatedly charged those crows when ever they would land on the ground," said club member Pete Jones.

"She would charge one of them and the crow would take off and fly. Then she would charge the other one. Finally she chased them away."

The gun club has been able to develop a number of field champions, thanks to its feisty rabbits, said Jones. The club will host the Virginia State Championship beagle event April 21 and 22.
