SMYTHERS, HATTIE A.\ WOODLAWN - Hattie Alderman Smythers, age 87, passed away Saturday evening at Twin County Community Hospital in Galax. She was born August 30, 1902, to Henry Alderman and Lucinda Jennings Alderman in Carroll County, Va. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Nile and Faye Smythers, Lynchburg; Charles and Shelby Smythers, Austinville; two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Frazier, Woodlawn; Mrs. Helen Shupe, Hillsville; a special family friend, Walter Smith, Jr.; two brothers, Ray Alderman, Friel Alderman, both of Galax; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Robinson, Mrs. Ceila Reavis, both of Galax; six grandchildren, Michael Smythers, Lynchburg; Elisa Gagnon, Kansas City, Kansas; Chalon Moore, Montgomery, Ala.; Gary Smythers, Seneca, S.C.; Craig Smythers, Booneville, N.C.; Grant Smythers, Virginia Tech; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 2, at 11:00 a.m. at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with the Rev. Joe Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Pickett Cemetery. Arrangements by Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home in Hillsville.
