HIGH COURT TO STUDY CALIFORNIA EXECUTION

Robert Alton Harris waited in a special death row cell for word from the U.S. Supreme Court today on whether it would let California's first execution in 23 years go forward.

The court was to consider the case today after defense lawyers filed papers Sunday asking the justices to review whether Harris had adequate psychiatric assistance at his 1978 trial for abducting and murdering two teen-agers.
