ROANOKE TEAM WINS RUGBY TOURNAMENT TITLE

The Roanoke Rugby Club took first place Sunday in the Lynchburg Rugby Festival.

Roanoke defeated Mary Washington College 16-9 to secure first place. Eddie Clark, E.J. Moses and Sammy Deel each scored a try for the winners.

In an earlier 35-3 victory over the Richmond-area training side, Keith Trumps and Martin Smith each scored three tries.

The tournament title was Roanoke's second of the season and improved the team's record to 11-1.

The Blacksburg Rugby Club defeated James River 6-0 to take second place as Trip Newell scored and Rob Keyes made the kick.

Blacksburg lost to Richmond 16-3 on Saturday, then whipped Newport News 25-0 Sunday.

Paul Rossler had three tries in the game against Newport News and Rob Keyes had two penalty kicks and was 2-of-4 on points after for 10 points. - Staff report
