YOUTH INDICTED ON MURDER CHARGES

A 16-year-old Roanoke boy was indicted Monday on murder charges that stemmed from a drug-related shooting at a Northwest Roanoke housing project.

Harold E. Anderson, whom a judge ruled should be tried as an adult, was named in a grand jury indictment returned in Roanoke Circuit Court.

Anderson is charged with murder and use of a firearm in connection with the Feb. 7 shooting of James P. Ferrell, 22, at the Lansdowne housing project.

Earlier testimony has shown that Ferrell owed money to Anderson for drugs, and that Anderson had said he was "going to get" Ferrell. Anderson was 15 at the time.

Anderson is being held in a juvenile detention home. A June trial date has been set.
