CRASH KILLS WOMAN ON MELROSE AVENUE

Laura H. Newbury of Barnett Road Northwest was pronounced dead at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Two other people were injured in the 12:25 p.m. accident at Melrose Avenue and Barnett Road near Salem.

Police said an eastbound station wagon driven by Newbury's 71-year-old husband, Reginald, was turning left onto Barnett when it was struck by a westbound car on Melrose driven by Venezuela Jackson, 74, of the 3500 block of Harvest Lane.

Police said Reginald Newbury was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where his condition was not available. Jackson was treated at Community Hospital and released.

No charges were filed.
