EDUCATOR TO SPEAK AT E&H FORUM MONDAY

Noted educator Ernest L. Boyer will be main speaker at the second annual Southwest Virginia Educational Forum at Emory & Henry College Monday at 7 p.m. in the King Gym.

He will talk about educational reform. Questions from the floor will follow.

The forum, which includes a dinner meeting for educational and industrial leaders of the region, is co-sponsored by the college; Southwest Virginia chapter of Phi Delta Kappa; and school divisions in Russell, Smyth and Washington counties and the city of Bristol.

Boyer also will speak at the dinner meeting.

He is president of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and is a former U.S. commissioner of education and president of the State University of New York, the nation's largest university system.

He is the author of "The High School: A Report on Secondary Education" which led to debate and discussion after its 1983 publication that contributed to the current educational reform movement.
