CRAIG SUPERVISOR PICKED FOR STATE POST

Gov. Douglas Wilder has chosen Zane M. Jones of New Castle to the Local Government Advisory Council.

Jones is a member of the Craig County Board of Supervisors and served for nearly a decade on the board of directors of the Virginia Association of Counties.

The council seeks to be a forum to identify areas of concern to state and local officials and makes recommendations on state issues affecting local governments.

Wilder also chose Accomack County supervisor Paul Merritt to the Virginia Marine Resources Commission.

Wilder reappointed John W. Freeman Sr., of Hampton, to the commission.

The commission manages, regulates and develops marine fishery resources and protects and preserves the marine habitat through a project review and permitting system.

Wilder also formally named Cathy Walker Green as director of the Executive Mansion.
