LET US SEE WHAT YOU SEE OF VALLEY LIFE

If you could take a picture, any picture, that depicts New River Valley life, what would it be?

A mountain scene? A country road? A traffic jam? Your back yard? Your son or daughter? The farmer next door?

We'd like to see.

The New River Current is sponsoring the first "New River Faces and Places" photo contest beginning today. Contest details are on Page 5.

And, because we realize that one photo might not capture it all, we'll accept two photos from each entrant - either black and white or color.

Every day, our readers see the community through the eyes of our two Roanoke Times & World-News bureau photographers, Gene Dalton and Alan Kim.

Now it's your turn to show us - and the rest of the New River Valley - what you see. The winning photographs will be published in a special issue of the New River Current May 20.

The best part about this competition is that it's strictly for amateurs - no professional photographers allowed. And the whole family can send in photos.

We've divided the contest into three categories to give everyone a fair shot at the prize: children up to age 12, teen-agers 12-18, and adults.

The photos need not have been taken specifically for this contest. They could be last year's Christmas pictures, or they could be from the fishing trip you made two summers ago. Just don't send your originals, because we won't be returning the entries.

Even if you don't win, you still may see your photo in the New River Current someday. We may print some of the entries in the section in the future.

So grab your Brownies, your Nikon, your Kodak Instamatic or whatever and get clicking! Deadline for entries is April 27.
