The 10th annual Chance Crawford Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament, sponsored by Miller Lite, the Salem Parks and Recreation Department and the Salem Sports Foundation, will be held April 27-29.
There will be six divisions this year: Division I (men's class A and B), Division II (men's class C), Division III (men's class D American), Division IV (men's class D national), Division V (women's class C) and Division VI, (women's class D).
The entry fee is $90 per team and checks should be made payable to the Chance Crawford Trust Fund. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. April 20. Each team must furnish one new ball for each game played. Dudley Red-Stitched Thunder is the ball for men's divisions and Dudley 11-inch Red-Stitched is the ball for women's divisions.

\ Running events set May 19 at Salem High
The 12th annual "Run for Fun," a four-mile distance run sponsored by the Salem Parks and Recreation Department and the Lewis-Gale Foundation, will be held May 19.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. at Salem High School. The entry fee is $8 and each participant will receive a T-shirt. Entry deadline is May 16; late entrants must pay a $10 fee to participate.
The Business Team Competition is new to this year's event. Teams, consisting of five full- or part-time employees of a company, will compete according to average times, with the slowest time thrown out. The entry fee is $50 per team. Participants also will be eligible for the four-mile division competition. The winning team will be presented with a trophy, donated by the Star City Striders, to be displayed at the business for a year.
A Youth Mile Fun Run will be held at 8:30 a.m. and a Fitness Mile Fun Run at 8:45. Each mile run costs $1 to enter, however the fun runs are free to those participating in the four-mile event.
