Mrs. Dallas Taylor Fender expired on April 4, 1990, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Shawsville, Va. She was born in Alleghany County, N.C. June 20, 1901, to Ayres B. and Flora Jane Taylor and wed to John C. Fender September 11, 1918, who preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by two daughters, Reba F. Irwin and Elizabeth F. Nichols, both of Sparta, N.C. Survivors include a daughter, Racine F. Van Dusen, Winston-Salem, N.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Quentin and Norma Fender, Roanoke; one granddaughter, Jeanne F. Burks, Atlanta, Ga.; and four grandsons, James Robert Fender, Kansas City, Mo.; Roger Lee Nichols, Kernerville, N.C.; James Kyle Nichols, Pinnacle, N.C.; and James Ronald Irwin, Greenville, N.C.; five great-grandchildren also survive, David Burks, Savannah, Ga.; George Brittain Irwin and Traci Elizabeth Irwin, both of Greenville, N.C.; Erica Nichols Dutrow, Winston-Salem, N.C.; Lee Nichols, Kernersville, N.C.; also two step great-children, Shane and Darrell Nichols, Pinnacle, N.C.; also one great-great grandchildren, Matthew Robert Bunk, Savannah, Ga.; other survivors are one sister, Miss Ivazelle Taylor, Elkin, N.C.; and one brother, Robert B. Taylor, Sparta, N.C.; in addition to several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Fender was employed by Hercules Power Co. at Radford, during World War II. She was an excellent seamstress and designer and assisted with costumes for the Norma Fender School of Dance for several years. She was a member of South Fork Baptist Church at Piney Creek and attended Greene Memorial Methodist Church and Sunday School, Roanoke, as long as her heath permitted. The family will receive friends at Grandview Funeral Parlor, Sparta, N.C., from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., April 6. Funeral services will be held at Grandview Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on April 7, with interment in the Landmark Church Cemetery.
