The state School Boards Association has selected Floyd County's "Policy and Regulations" as its model for the format of policy books.
Floyd County was one of the first systems in the state to adopt the National School Boards Association's new format for organizing policy books.
"We were in the process of revising our [policy book] when it became the thing to do," said Superintendent Omar Ross.
"It's going to be an example for all the school systems. And we just happened to be in the process of doing it."
At the same time, the state association decided to adopt the national standard for its format. It looked at policy books from Floyd County and other school systems and selected Floyd County's for the model.
Jean Arnold, attorney for the county's schools, revised the policy book and put the new national format in place.
"The important thing is that Floyd has the most up-to-date policies in the state," said Arnold, who became the attorney for the state School Board Association in March and also has been the attorney for Montgomery County schools.
Arnold said the changes make it easier for school systems to revise individuals policies without having to re-write entire sections of the book.
