Proceeds will support the organization's reproductive health-care and education services, development director Nancy Prillaman said.
"We hoped to raise [$2,000]," executive director Katherine Haynie said. "But it was more a friend-raiser. It's very important for people to have the opportunity to be involved with Planned Parenthood in the communities we serve."
Proceeds from the $10 tickets will help support a resource center that opened in Blacksburg in February, Prillaman said. "The Roanoke resource center is used quite a bit," she added.
The Blacksburg center, at 700 N. Main St., provides reproductive health care and educational materials to the public on Mondays, 3-5 p.m.; Thursdays, 10 a.m.-noon; and also by appointment.
Two Blacksburg clothing stores, Bonomos and Davidsons, modeled spring and summer fashions - casual apparel, career clothes and formal wear - while Planned Parenthood supporters enjoyed food and drink at Blacksburg's Custom Catering Center.
Planned Parenthood representatives from Roanoke and Blacksburg talked with supporters and distributed information on AIDS, other sexually transmitted diseases and birth control.
Jane Bonomo, owner of the all-women's Bonomos clothing stores with Blacksburg and Radford among its locations, offered to do the benefit.
Davidsons, which sells men's clothing at locations including Blacksburg and Christiansburg, co-sponsored the event.
"I think it's important to be part of a community and help organizations doing good work," Bonomo said.
Other Blacksburg businesses also participated. Jimmy Tickle of Bridal and Elegance at The Collection donated flowers, and Images by B styled the models' hair.
